Ailis Cournane
Graduate Student, Department of Linguistics, University of Toronto

Welcome! My name is Ailis. I'm from Montreal. My parents are from Ireland. I've also lived in New Hampshire.
I am doing my PhD in Linguistics in lovely Toronto-land. My research interests lie mainly in the area of grammaticalization. How languages change, particularly from a formal reanalysis perspective, intrigues me. I have a thing for Indo-European studies. Lately I work a lot on Romance. I'm interested in using microvariation between dialects as a means to study language change. I work mainly in the areas of Syntax and Morphology. Also, Language Acquisition is important to my research as I'm interested in learnability and the creation of new variants through innaccurate acquisiton (i.e. innovation~!)
I also have a background and interest in art, particularly painting, ceramics and handicrafts.
