I am a linguist and artist, in both areas I'm interested in the relationship between structure and meaning, particularly from the perspective of how these relationships develop and change.
As a linguist, I focus primarily on child language development, but also on how languages change over time. My primary domain of research is modality (how we express possibilities and necessities).
As an artist, my work has mostly been in ceramics and print media, and is mostly about parallels between micro- and macro- change, the honesty of animals, and death (in a bones-are-neat kind of way). I love anachronisms, like urban-dinosaurs. To the right is a particularly snappily dressed Dutch urban dinosaur, spotted on Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam c. 2013.
